next level shit-200SHINE

i’ve got projects coming, but in a catchphrase, this is my lifestyle choice for the year:

hip hop spinster

trailblazin’, first of my kind.

charming metro stories-ttc bust

so, it’s a good thing that i’m still packing a BC id (expired-ass as it is), because it was easier to feign ignorance about trying to sneak onto the train, blasted ossington station. but i’ve learned my lesson to pay my fare and not listen to cohorts.

badu prediction 200SHINE

on the bus ride to toronto, upon the zillionth listen to Mama’s Gun, the following epiphany came to me.

she always has one song that sounds like nothing else and is foreshadowing for the next effort. example: “penitentiary philosophy” is a crazy way to open that album because it doesn’t match the rest, but it does sound like it could belong on New Amerykah, the leading single for which was “honey”, a genius move (and even more genius video) to throw the leakers off to the project, but i think it means that the next movement of the four album set will be for the club (since common and mister foxx are already knocking it out) and who else to do it better than badu (and the source of her next loinfruit j electronica, whom i maintain has a shit stage show), “butt nekkid, covered in glitter…and a beeper”. call me cassandra, but i foresee some ass-shaking.

stop the presses!

i have been mostly immune to the market saturation of t-wayne (and i still suspect scientology as the culprit) but recently, this lyric came my way via the jamie foxx album, and i am charmed by it:

“we can kick it like judo”

that is all on that subject.

the wire-RIP bodie

to rework a quote from Heathers, “God, why’d you have to kill such hot cock?” (sigh) bodie’s the kinda fella that makes you feel more like a “boo”. i didn’t actually go away for christmas, i just watched three seasons of the wire in a week. the moments that made me gasp, the killing of this hottie, bubble’s accidental poisoning of his adopted “nephew”, and his suicide attempt. the show is wonder-full, and the thing i appreciate most is that none of the drug dealers/kingpins are rappers! revolutionary television that dares to tell this truth. that and the hardest independent gangsta on the street never curses, observes sundays as a day of rest and is openly gay. i know i have one more season, but i think i will find a way to own it/save it for a reward for actually getting some work done this year.

jamie foxx-trust your intuition

the man, the entertainer, the true urban legend. i will have an official ten cents on this cat, but my two cents is that he is amazing. this album is one of the best of the year, and finally one that is representative of what he does and his talent. lyrically, there is nothing special, but because he can sing his ass off, it doesn’t matter. in my opinion, the man is the king of r&b, despite the viral single by musiq (why did he bring back soulchild if he is clearly never going to be able to pull off neo-soul again? or is it that i just think he’s so arrogant, arrogant…) he’s never been good looking but always so damn sexxxy. go on, mister foxx. i can’t wait to see the soloist either, happy two thousand SHINE.

charming metro stories-big dood

going into jean-talon last week, i noticed this big dude look side to side, then drop to his knees and crawl under the turnstile with the agility of a cheetah. i was impressed, and reminded of jazz from dru hill, remember big dood who used to keep up with the rest of them in the choreography? even with all that jumping. go big doods, i’m in your corner.

metro stories-loud talkers

i remember when i first got my cellphone. i fell into the trap of loud talking because i was in loud environments (aka public transit). i was taken to task loudly and publicly by a girl who obviously had a bad experience, but it was true, we disclose a lot of info to n’importe qui, oftentimes unbeknownst to us. i was reminded of this when i heard every single word that a girl was saying from a few seats over and behind her on the 105, and i had my headphones on. not only is it rude and noise pollution to speak on your cellular telephonic device in public, it’s probably not the best look for safety.
