what can YOU do with timber left for dead?

the national parcs can do this:  http://www.myspace.com/thenationalparcs

i interviewed these lovely gents on Friday for Watch Mojo (proof coming soon, i promise) and not only did they confirm the existence of electro-bluegrass, but they also embraced my coinage of “new lumberjack swing”, i think these fellas do it, yo. it’s about time we had an alternatimber already, sheesh.

but for evidence of vintage timbo (better with ginuwine than timberfake any day) check out this oldie but goldie:
http://bebo.com/watch/4414951420 the first of my throwback vids dedicated to su (miz “i quit facespace but still an internets hero to me”) this song’s been on repeat for me all damn day and has inspired most of my writing today, including this blog.

hope for the junos yet

they’re trying, y’all. don’t dismiss them as completely wack. at least the commitee had the good sense to nominate these two cool cats (who may do musics together, because of their mutual collaborator..whom i have yet to meet, but believe me, i will, anyone that talented and dedicated to work on these two brilliant projects is someone i must know)
the old prince and goldrush, two of my favoritest joints of recent history. two stand-up guys too. for real.

kayte burgess-opposite of excess

madame and her checked baggage are obviously canadian, i can tell from the shoutouts in her liner notes. her cover art (bigup to stylist julia che) looks anything but canadian, and that is impressive, as is the crucial inclusion of ali shaheed muhammed to her producers list, bigup. her voice is pretty good, but like her canadian counterparts (other than ivana, because woman’s shits are bangin’ live and on wax) she probably represents way better live. she doesn’t really offer anything remarkably memorable lyrically, and this is a background/shopping/driving record that i would pull from when doing the score of a meloncholy love movie (like garden state). the duets (“get ur number” and “this love is”) are nice, though it would be great if she would list who the male vocalists/rapper are…it’s nice to see chin injeti and wade o brown (some of our canadian idols) lacing a track, and factor, you did good. here’s hoping that she’ll get the quick major label co-sign and release another album to build upon before her momentum runs out. her tracks start with promise, but don’t move enough, and the metaphor can be extrapolated out to her whole project, as a whole, she’s travellin’ a little too light.

goldrush

ya, i’ve known him for a decade now. but the album is done, and beauty-full. i’ma do a full review of it at some point very soon (JB, give me the clearance!) but he’s quit his jobs and is looking to do the european tour soon-ish (but he better stop by montreal so that we can have brunch, already), so look out for his kiosk (he coloured on it himself!) check the myspace: www.myspace.com/eebmusic for the tune-age, and his website www.eebmusic.com to buy the joint (worth the money). alrighty, he’s not just a pretty face, he’s a pretty voice too ;) and a pretty tight producer, though he’s still a punk sometimes, and tries to use big words, “try” being the operative verb.

full frontal

did anyone see the Steven Soderbergh film of this name? David Duchovny with the plastic bag over his head…. or is it all about Viggo Mortenson’s flying penis in Eastern Promise? Colin Farrell’s peter was the star of Alexander, right? and poor little Jude Law who always flashes his peepee in every movie he’s in gets overshadowed in all of that. what is the big deal with showing flacid members on the big screen anyway? can anyone please enlighten me?
