stop the presses!

i have been mostly immune to the market saturation of t-wayne (and i still suspect scientology as the culprit) but recently, this lyric came my way via the jamie foxx album, and i am charmed by it:

“we can kick it like judo”

that is all on that subject.

sasha fierce?!

uh, HUH. yeah, it’s gotta hurt, B, that daddy’s retaliating to you jumping ship and signing over his biggest ass-et to your husband by putting everything behind your baby sister, because solange’s album is bangin’, fresh, innovative and this is…. and it was kind of a silly move, no? your pops is only the Suge Knight of R&B. and this “double” album, aka one album split into two discs, is more packaging than substance. Ave Maria?! outfits borrowed from figure skaters and old george michael video shoots (i swear linda evangelista was rocking that handle bar bustier when he was still trying to pass as straight)?! i guess she’s truly a star now, because her voice has been toned down to the point that it’s just boring, her songwriters seem very “mature”, and that alter ego sure has some horrible eyebrows and collagen injected lips? no comment. is it major label? is it growing out of a niche and not thinking about the next one? is it the result of child-stardom? who knows, but short of the dood who got your steps down in a disturbing bodysuit (only because it revealed too much of his ribs), nothing about this project titillates me in the least, but i look forward to her next movie.

all i feel

is sorry for this man. i mean, it’s not like he doesn’t try hard for attention, cavorting with Superhead, sex tape with Kardashian (who isn’t as offensive as Paris Hilton only because she’s more attractive), even getting with Whitney for a minute, but i guess this one isn’t going to live down Brandy’s shadow, though he might be trying to outdo her with the “edgy” angle. whatever.

star tracks: meh. they’re all pretty disposable
five points:
-lyrical highlights so bad they jump off the track: “guess i’m polkaroo”, “yes, i put it in her mouth”, “one is my jump off, the other is my wife”, every word in “girl from the bronx”
-he rhymes “bitches” with “bitches”, even Mr T (from the Block Party) did better than that- “late” with “great”, besides, he’s not from Chicago (R. Kelly and Kanye do this shit all the time)
-complete waste of a Styles P cameo-BOO
-can we stop with the voice altering technologies already? sheesh. and the terrible background sounds, the crying, the dialogues
-if you reference the sex tape, and have a sex tape release party, hmmm….
final thought: usher did the infidelity record better

sinking up

hmm, still not sure about “album number TEN” (kind of the opposite about how i felt about 2$hort’s opus of the same landmark) but i think with the roots, that their works must be listened to from front to back to be fully appreciated (like the cohen brother’s cannon). they make it kinda hard, what with releasing four videos (all of which are kind of ?uestionable for different reasons/to different degrees-my favorite is “get busy” for the drummer formerly known as ?uestion’s drum face and the afro pick USB key) before the disc even drops. and from what i’ve heard, it’s the first time i haven’t heard mister trotter’s flow and been like, “wow, it’s a good thing malik b quit the group so that thought could become so increasingly fierce on the mic”, but maybe it’s because he’s giving more verses to (relatively) unknowns than he’s keeping for himself. it’s bad enough that he’s already not the front man of his group, but now he’s sharing the sliver of the spotlight that he’s worked so hard to earn? oh well, time will tell, but like finding forever made me run back to electric circus, the cuts i’ve heard from this one have me hibernating with phrenology and game theory.

seasons (don’t) change

as i sit here in vancouver in spring(?) looking out the window at the snow(!) covered roofs across the street, calling my dearest to confirm that i wasn’t crazy and witnessing lightning and thunder together, i ponder about the “injustice” of this weather. in fact, i came across the country to escape this in montreal. but should we really be so surprised? we did this to ourselves. to paraphrase a great woman in my life, “(wo)man has been pissing on the world for centuries and is now complaining that it stinks”. werd. have you noticed that fruit these days, while it is available at all seasons of the year, tastes like nothing? what’s wrong with waiting it out, accepting that we can only having strawberries in the summer, and savoring those strawberries then? no, we have to have strawberries at the snap of a finger, and now they all taste like cardboard. so if we make fruit all season, shouldn’t we be ready and willing to accept the reality that the side-effect is that there are no seasons? frick.

got hype?

so, i am back in vancouver and have noticed that all my friends (and by that i mean “two of my friends” but they are very dear to me and warrant the hyperbole) have taken to drinking milk out of bottles. now, call me a milk industry conspiracy theorist, but “vintage milk” is a helluva gimmick. the one percent tastes so milky that i’m scared to sample the whole, and i know the drinkers are down, what with soy/oat/almond/etc. and the fact that we are not calves working against the cause. they showed strong again at the free breakfast during montreal’s nuit blanche, but it’s still not a reason to guzzle the breastmilk of cows, y’all. though some recent youtube explorations of inter-species humping (dog-cat, dog-duck, daschund-lion) would argue for us drinking the sustenance of other animals, but we don’t even suck back human breastmilk past the age of four (and even then, people poo poo).

and now, blackface makes its return?!

Obama’s “related” to Bush and Cheney, Lebron’s assuming a gorilla stance on Vogue channeling King Kong with Giselle grinning it up, damn, the presidential RACE is getting outta hand…

stronger?

hmm…i was flipping through this at la grande bibliotheque (yes, i made my return…) yesterday and i’m not sure about the judgement (or lack thereof) that they are exercising….their number 12 album of the year was “planet earth” or whatever it’s called (not like the title is anywhere on the hologram cover or anything), seriously one of the worst Prince albums EVER, though to be fair, his last four have been negligable. i know they’ve sold well, but they’re lacking that certain..prince-ness. guess maybe van hunt found it or something. (don’t even talk to me about bilal). they mentioned “mister goodnight”, like it was just some forgivable slight, not just pure nonsense (and not in a good way like “starfish and coffee”). did he seriously sell that many albums? then, their number 11 album? Lil’ Wayne. damn.  though he probably did sell that many albums.

the kanye interview is interesting though. i like, “looks incredulous”: I’m black, of course I was inspired by michael jackson.

they didn’t mention that he and will.i.am (yikes, i’m sorta scared yet excited for this one) will be amongst the re-workers of the anniversary thriller album..coming soon.

ok, all for now. but in closing, how dope is 9th wonder?
