hope for the junos yet

they’re trying, y’all. don’t dismiss them as completely wack. at least the commitee had the good sense to nominate these two cool cats (who may do musics together, because of their mutual collaborator..whom i have yet to meet, but believe me, i will, anyone that talented and dedicated to work on these two brilliant projects is someone i must know)
the old prince and goldrush, two of my favoritest joints of recent history. two stand-up guys too. for real.

lolita’s-south of the border cuisine

how apt.

how i missed this spot when i was a resident of the vancouver, i don’t know, but now that i do, i will never miss it again. the ginger beer was more like a ginger lemonade, but refreshing none the less, and the tiny bites of ceviche that i engaged in were all good. the soundtrack was nice (prince all day, baby) and the service is friendly, the spot is intimate in the small way, and this is the perfect place for a first date, even if you don’t know you’re on one. 1326 davie st/www.lolitasrestaurant.com.

salt tasting room

who says blood alley is scary? it’s actually pretty cool. not only is complex a stone’s throw away, but that store with all the boxes and stuffed dustballs (it’s cuter than it sounds) the salt tasting room (www.salttastingroom.com) is the perfect first stop for a montrealer/ex-vancouverite because it’s so wine and cheesy, featuring bite-sized morsels of goodness in a cozy environment. and saucy! so saucy! i haven’t sampled this much crazy sauce since it was my job at the stock market (go, go, granville island!). yea, west coast. i wish all of your tasting partners are as wonder-full and fancy as mine was (he also busted out dessert wine on his kitchen floor with almonds and dark chocolate and we made carrot/beet/ginger/apple/strawberry juice and yellow zucchini and eggplant swiss quesadillas with spicy corn salsa during my trip home) hungry! so hungry now!

mink-a chocolate cafe

so what happens when two libra horses and two virgo goats stumble upon a chocolate lounge in coal harbour? YUMMINESS, that’s what! the mink chocolate cafe (863 west hastings/www.minkchocolates.com) is a place to go for drinking chocoate, fondue, bonbons, iced mochas and pepperminty chocolate hot treats, unless chocolate gives you migranes (poor you), but there are better things to stuff your face with, i guess. the adorable and soap like packagings are asthetically pleasing, and the chocolate in the box (especially the ganache ones) are equally delectable. i want to be the person that names the bars! my only beef with this place is that it closes at 6pm. boo.
